Mr. Ahmad El Ahmad - President of the Damascus International Film Festival

The largest aim of the Damascus International Film Festival is to celebrate of the Syrian film to be introduced to the largest number of Arab and foreign filmmakers who attended the festival, and thus opened the way to "the Syrian film" to be participated in various international film festivals and doubling the chances of marketing. This on the one hand, on the other hand the festival is as an opportunity to define the latest world productions to our Syrian audience, and particularly to define that films which the distributors do not bring to the audience. In addition to ,we want to give through the festival a true picture of our country and its ancient civilization. and how we enjoying with the security and stability in our city , thereby we can refuting the distorted picture that some of Western media are trying to promote.

Damascus International Film Festival had made a great strides since its inception till now. It has became annually after it was held once every two years, and became international after it was dedicated to Arab cinema, Asian and Latin American, and the number of films and guests doubled several times, and the publications jumped leaps forward in terms of quantity, size and quality.

Now We are preparing to join the International Union for the producers to take the official international capacity to the festival, after we achieved most of the conditions required by this accession.

Final word, Damascus International Film Festival has become, part of the cultural identity of the old city, and feature of the distinctive features of the city , and annul event which the seventh art lovers waiting for.
